Chasetown's FA Cup run comes to an end against Cardiff City in 3rd Round Proper
Chasetown's amazing FA Cup run finally came to an end for the 2007/08 season in the 3rd Round with a home defeat to Championship side Cardiff City. The Scholars took the lead in the first half through an own goal but Cardiff pulled level in first half injury time. Two goals in the second half ended the Staffordshire non league club's dreams of being in the 4th Round draw. Another great FA Cup season for Chasetown.
Port Vale Replay
A great display by Chasetown earned the club a home third round tie against Cardiff City on 5th January 2008 and the £24,000 prize money for winning in the second round.
Port Vale were awarded two penalties duing the second half of the replay, the first hit the bar and the second was brilliantly saved by keeper Lee Evans.
With the replay looking likely to go into extra time Chasetown brought on 'student' Danny Smith who scored with a fantastic diving header with just 2 minutes left on the clock.

There was a great atmosphere outside the pubs in Burslem before the second round FA Cup tie between Port Vale and Chasetown. Although the police shut this pub down at the Chasetown end of the ground 50 minutes before the game, there was no hint of trouble and the fans from Chasetown created a great pre-match atmosphere.
Inside the pubs Chasetown fans drank a beer or two and practiced a few songs.
Over 2,000 fans made the trip up to see the FA Cup game.
The replay will be on Tuesday 11th December 2007 at Chasetown Town's compact ground, Port Vale won't be looking forward to it and must be now be wishiing they had taken advantage of being at home and taking all their chances.
Something you don't see very often at a Chasetown game, a helicopter keeping an eye on the fans before the game.

Not only a fantastic draw away at League opposition but a home draw if they get through the replay, against Cardiff City in the New Year.

Chasetown and the FA Cup
On 5th January 2008 Chasetown will entertain Cardiif City in the FA Cup 3rd Round. This game is just the latest of the club's successes in the competition.
In November 2005 the Staffordshire club upset the odds by reaching the First Round of the F.A. Cup for the first time in their history. The BBC chose Chasetown v Oldham Athletic as their live Sunday Match of the Day game and a TV audience of 3.2 million watched the non-league side hold Oldham Athletic to a 1-1 draw. The Scholars actually led the League side for a short while through a Nicky Harrison goal. The replay was easily won by Oldham Athletic, 4-0, in front of a crowd of 7,235 - over 2,400 of these making the journey up from Staffordshire.
This FA Cup run saw the financial success of landing a shirt sponsorship deal with Virgin Holidays for the 2006-07 season, while central defender, Chris Slater, who made a dramatic goal-line clearance in the cup-tie, had trials with League sides Walsall, Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool.
Several other records were set during the monumental 2005-06 season. The Scholars notched a record eight consecutive victories in the league, went 22 games unbeaten in league and cup games, and regularly smashed their record league attendance, topping 500 for the first time when Leamington came to the Scholars Ground in January 2006 and then ending the season with 839 for the visit of Romulus.
Sitting in 14th place and 20 points adrift of league leaders Malvern Town just after the FA Cup games, Chasetown began one of the most amazing winning runs in their history. 12 wins out of 13 in December, January and February lifted Chasetown into the top 8 of the division. 5 more wins in March put the Scholars into 4th place, just one point behind the leaders.
On April 20th, Chasetown topped the league table for the first time in the season and the final day of the season saw Chasetown in pole position. Nearly 1,000 came to see Karl Edwards notch two goals against Romulus and Chasetown lift the Midland Alliance trophy and gain promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Midlands.
