Coventry Sphinx reached the last 32 of the FA Vase for the first time in their history by beating Oldbury United 4-0. The photograph on the left shows one of the posters advertising the game.
Sphinx were formed in 1946 and this season play in the Midland Alliance after winning the Midland Combination - Premier Division title last season.
In a fantastic season for the club they also won the Coventry Charity Cup, BCFA Midweek Floodlit Cup and the Tony Allden Memorial Cup.

The game was only on as officials and fans of the club turned up at 9.30am to fork the pitch - everyone thought it was well worth the effort by the time the full time whistle blew!
Not only were the weather conditions appalling but Sphinx also had to borrow a pair of dugouts from Coventry City after theirs blew over on the Thursday before the game.
A perfect corner is headed home.
The prize money for a 3rd Round win in the FA Vase is £1,200.

The programme from the FA Vase Third Round game between Sphinx and Oldbury United. Sphinx dominated from the start and came out 4-0 winners and in the hat for the 4th round draw - the last 32!
Really nice looking programme priced at £1.50, edited by vice-chairman Neil Long. Sphinx's programme won the award for best programme in the Midland Combination in 2006 & 2007 and was runner up in 2005.
With Coventry Sphinx's Vase game against Oldbury United being one of the few games on in the Midlands they got a decent crowd and completely sold out of programmes.
Special thanks to 'the bloke on the gate' who gave me his copy of the programme as they were sold out by the time I arrived at five past three.
The main stand at Coventry Sphinx. The stand was erected after the club gained promotion to the Midland Combination - Premier Division in 1995 and was officially opened with a game against a Coventry City XI. Now called the Willie Knibbs Memorial Stand after former player and two time manager Willie Knibbs who was tragically killed in a car accident in November 2001 on his way home from a cup game at Meir KA.

Coventry Sphinx spent twelve seasons in the Premier Division of the Midland Combination finishing runners-up on three ocassions, the first time in their first season in the top flight, 1995/96, then again in 2005 & 2006 before finally winning the title last season.
Another view of the ground with the social club and changing rooms in the background. Sphinx Drive is a huge complex with plenty of room for development.
Inside the social club there are plans on the wall for the future development of the ground which will give Sphinx Drive some of the best facilities in local non-league football.
