The Stand at Leominster's Bridge Street Ground
Leominster Town Football Club was officially formed in 1893 as a founding member of the Herefordshire Football Association, although there are press records suggesting that it existed as an entity prior to this.
The Club won the first ever Herefordshire FA Junior Cup beating Worcester Excelsior 5 – 2 at Edgar Street (Hereford United’s ground). The team travelled to Hereford by train and on its return was met by the Town band who led them in procession through the Town.
For its first 70 years the Club developed a stable base at its Worcester Road Ground to the south of the Town. It was also the home of the North Herefordshire League until it amalgamated to form the present Herefordshire League.
Unfortunately in the mid 1960s, the former Leominster Borough Council took its ground to develop as part of an industrial estate. Despite promises by the Council to find the Club a new home, this never materialised condemning a generation of Town footballers to play upon a farmer’s field and changing in a caravan with no water. The Club’s fortunes changed as it was forced to look for pitches elsewhere around the town.

With the increasing requirements for high standard facilities and the need to compete with other clubs in the County, principally in Hereford who were attracting the town’s best players, Leominster Town and Leominster United (formerly Dales United) decided to amalgamate in 1994 and 3 years later the new town facilities at Bridge Street Park opened.
Leominster Town Ladies are now part of the Club, forming in 2005 following an establishment period as a youth side in the Herefordshire Girls league. The Ladies play in the Kidderminster and District Ladies League and won honours in their second season when they beat Droitwich Spa ladies 2 – 1 in the final of the League Cup.
Leominster Town are an ambitious club and are aiming high for the future. At the top of the priorities for the current season is the target to secure a long-term lease of the main pitch at Bridge Street Sports Centre in order to retain and enhance the facility for the town’s footballers. Also in 2007/8 it is intended to build up the base of players in order to run a Reserves side in the 2008/9 season.
T hey will also continue to facilitate women’s and girl’s football through developing the links made over the past two years with Leominster Town Ladies and Leominster Town Girls.
The Club also intends to develop stronger links with youth teams, in particular the Under 18’s team run by Leominster Minors, to facilitate the retention of footballing talent within the Town and also with the Minster College.
