Stamford Appoint New Manager (January 31, 2008)
UniBond League Premier Division club Stamford has announce the appointment of Dougie Keast as their new manager.
Edinburgh-born, 46-year-old Keast played for Hibernian as a youngster before coming to England to complete his teacher training. After a short spell with Shepshed Charterhouse he joined Kettering Town in December 1983.
During a nine season stint with the Poppies, Keast made 373 appearances and was a member of the side which reached the FA Cup Fourth Round in 1989 and finished runners-up in the Conference.
In the summer of 1992 Keast joined Corby Town and skippered to the Steelmen to their highest ever finish in the Southern League.
In March 1994 he was sold to Rushden & Diamonds for a £3,000 fee and the following season he was part of the Diamonds side which won the Southern League Midland Division title.
Two years with Burton Albion followed plus one with Rothwell Town, before he rejoined Corby as player-coach in September 1998.
After two more years as a player Keast retired as a player, although he later linked up with Quorn where he gained his first managerial experience with the Polymac Services Midland Alliance club.
During his time with the Leicestershire club he built an attractive young side which contested the promotion issue.
One of Keast`s protégés at Quorn was Luke Varney, who was sold to Crewe Alexandra and later moved to Charlton Athletic in the Championship - the transfer generating a six-figure sum for the Leicestershire club through add ons.
Keast took over as manager of Loughborough Dynamo in the summer of 2006 before moving to Southern League Premier Division Corby Town in December 2006.
He left the Rockingham Triangle at the end of the season as the Steelmen’s new owners brought in their own management team.
