Central Midlands Ground Hop (February 04, 2008)

Do You Fancy a Couple of Days Away at Easter?

For those of you non-league football fans who love to visit new grounds this Easter presents a great opportunity to tick a few more off your list.  The annual Central Midlands League ground hop takes place over two days, starting on Good Friday, 21st March 2008.  The bonanza of eight games starts off in the village of Nettleham just outside Lincoln with the Supreme Division match with Forest Town.  The early start of 10.15am should result in excellent bacon sandwich sales at Mulsanne Park.

The next game kicks off at 1.30pm giving hoppers the time to travel south to Newark to see Newark Town take on Kinsley Boys in the Premier Division encounter.  The final two games on Good Friday are both in the Nottingham area with Radcliffe Olympic v Dunkirk kicking off at 4.45pm.  The day ends with a late evening encounter at Calverton Miners Welfare who host Yorkshire Main starting at 8pm.  Calverton have an excellent social club so hoppers can unwind with a few pints and the brave ones can pitch a tent on the large field adjacent to the ground.  I’m assured that bacon sandwiches will be on sale first thing on the Saturday morning.

Saturday see another four games scheduled with the early kick off being back at Newark, this time Flowserve entertain Bolsover Town at 10.30am.  A short trip up the road to Ollerton village for the Ollerton Town v Kiveton Park is the 1.30pm game.  The last two games of the weekend take in the Southwell City v Clipstone Welfare match at 4.40pm, with the weekend finishing with the Premier Division clash between Blidworth Welfare and Parkhouse, kicking off at 7.45pm.

As well as a great weekend for non-league football enthusiasts it also gives the clubs hosting games the opportunity to make some much needed cash with most of the clubs getting their biggest gate of the season.  It’s a great opportunity to meet other fans and all for £25.00 which gets you into every game and all eight programmes, that represents about £3.00 a match which is great value for money.
