Walsall Wood Stand 1

Walsall Wood GatesThe history of Walsall Wood Football Club dates back to 1915, when they competed in the Walsall & District Combination during the 1915/16 season finishing 5th.

Walsall Wood have strong links from their early years with the church and the mining industry, both of these historic links are still seen today in the club badge. Also reflected in the club badge is the old castle or hill fort which stood in the area and another prominent local land mark in the form of an oak tree.

Walsall Wood were a strong side during the 1920s & 1930s and again after the second world war.  Being one of the strongest clubs in the area resulted in Walsall Wood being featured in the cigarette cards that were a feature of that period alongside the likes of Aston Villa, Wolves, West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City and Walsall.

The club have an impressive record in cup competitions over the years.  The Walsall & District FA Senior Cup was won in 1923 and between 1932 & 1962 the club went on to win it another nine times.

In the Walsall & District FA Challenge Cup Walsall Wood enjoyed success in their 1977/78 season, winning the trophy and were runners up in both the 1949/50 & 1998/99 campaigns.
